A typical fair may last two hours depending on the extent of the activities. We would suggest an early evening perhaps starting around 5:30 PM with a light supper and ending at 7:30 with a brief closing devotion. The ending time would allow for families to return home early enough to accommodate homework and bedtime routine.
Each Fair will be centered on a specific season and the dinner can be related to the season presented that evening:
For example:
Spring- Spring salads and sub sandwiches
Summer- Picnic foods (hamburgers, hot dogs , chips, fruit)
Fall- Thank You Feast (shredded beef or turkey sandwiches, applesauce, corn)
Winter- Welcome in Winter dinner (warm soup, grilled cheese sandwiches,
decorated cookies for dessert.
After dinner, a brief, interactive devotion would be held to begin the night’s activities. The dinner and devotion may be held in the cafeteria or fellowship hall to accommodate the families. At the end of the devotion, the group will move to any appropriate large group area for the fair activities. Each family can then explore the season and theme of the evening by visiting the various stations. (Tables and booths can be set up with activities from the categories of faith activities: sharing Bible stories, building family devotions, playing together.)
After about 45 minutes the families could move to the individual classrooms for the large classroom activities, more play opportunities and the closing prayer.
