The founder of WLI, Dr. Donna Streufert, led a candlelight devotion on Friday evening at the 2008 conference and authored a drama, "Daughters of the Church: Portraits of Courage," performed on Saturday evening by actresses from several local theater groups. She also led a workshop on "How to Write a Bible Study." She is the former editor of the Lutheran Woman's Quarterly and was the first woman ever to serve as its Bible Study editor. Among the women attending the conference from Indiana were (left to right): Lisa Polito, head of the Lutheran Deaconess Association, Valparaiso; Dawn Modlin, Kendalville; Sandy Thompson, Carmel, and Donna Streufert, South Bend. Thompson is a member of the WLI Advisory Board.

Lois Mueller assists Annetta Dellinger, Plain City, OH, and Violet Abuya, Steubenville, OH, as they attempt a balancing exercise prior to the Saturday conference session. Mueller, a CUW professor, led exercise breaks during the 2008 WLI conference.

Leadership Award

Angela Krueger of Grafton, WI, was honored at the 2008 national Women's Leadership Institute (WLI) conference in Milwaukee, where she received the Donna J. Streufert Leadership Award. This award is given annually to a current Concordia University Wisconsin student who demonstrates outstanding leadership abilities in her studies and extra-curricular activities. A lay ministry student, Angela is majoring in theology.
